Four Tips in Finding Your Personal Style

“Fashion is what you are offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” –Lauren Hutton

In the world of fashion, it is most imperative for a woman to stand out rather than conform. Trends and fashion styles may dominate the industry, but personal style would be definitive of your taste and would inject a dash of individuality into your ensemble. In terms of your wardrobe, it is important that you have a thorough understanding of what looks great on you, what you like and how to shop for these.

True enough, incorporating a bit of our style into everyday trends can prove to be a bit of a fashion challenge. But feeling great in a chosen outfit contributes to your confidence in owning it. So, to find a style that would make you feel legitimately fashionable and beautiful, here are some tips:

1. Seek Inspiration

Seek Style Inspiration

Whether it may be the style ambassadors of Instagram, the fashion pundits of a particular magazine or even your favorite model, style icon or celebrity. It is important to draw inspiration from them. Do a bit of research online and see which styles you gravitate most to and which of them would make you feel great and confident.

After you have selected some style options, create a list and see what all these styles have in common. What you list are the characteristics you can most relate to and would most likely be the look that would make you feel most comfortable.

2. Clean up and Clean out your Closet

Over the years, you may have accumulated many clothes that you are clinging on to despite them being hopelessly outdated. Keeping these clothes in your closet would achieve nothing apart from taking up valuable space so; it is a good idea to start sorting them out so you can start afresh.

Refine your wardrobe by looking for sartorial items which you have not worn in a year and either sell those or donate them. You may have bought that cute sweater from a thrift wholesale clothing shop. And it may hold sentimental memories, but if you have not worn it in the past 365 days, then it should go.

3. Shop Smarter

Shop Smarter

Almost every woman alive is guilty of impulsive shopping. We simply cannot help it—we see something we like, we try it on and then we buy it. We do not necessarily think of the ramifications our innocent little habit does; but the truth is there are a few. If you buy something out of impulse, you do not see the necessity behind it but rather only your desire.

This means, more often than not, we have clothes sitting in our closets appropriate only for very specific occasions or seasons. Seeing as this is the would be the likely case, when you are out shopping; it is important to be practical by looking for bargain hunts and deals. When it comes to shopping for trends, purchase them wisely as they are notorious for coming and going out of style.

4. Trust Your Instincts

Last, but certainly not the least is to trust your instincts. Disregard particular clothing’s label or size. Continuously experiment with different kinds of shapes, textures, accessories and even shoes. If it makes you feel good then, in essence, you have successfully found your personal style.

Your outfit should be an unbridled expression of your individuality and personality. It should be a visual representation of who you are and who you want to be.
